***Part 1***

“Don’t…”

I, Nanase Yuzuki, stole the ball from Umi who was challenging Tōdō Mai and ran past them.

“Don’t underestimate me!”

I shot a three-pointer with a high level of concentration. As soon as the ball left my fingertips, I knew I was going to score.

As expected, the ball followed the trajectory I had envisioned and went smoothly through the net.

Ever since accepting Umi’s proposal, I always played a silent role in helping out behind the scenes. However, even though I looked like this, I was also an athlete who loves to sweat.

In fact, I was on the verge of exploding.

I was so angry at my indecisive teammates, at the way I forced my partner to take on a hated role, at Tōdō Mai who decided that Umi was inferior, at the former’s attitude who didn’t even look at me, at the missed opportunity that got snatched away by my rival to cheer up the boy I liked, and above all, at the pathetic girl named Nanase Yuzuki who had brought this situation on herself.

“So, a player like you exists too. What’s your name?”

Tōdō Mai raised the corner of her mouth as if she had just recognized my existence. Despite the calm answer, yesterday’s game flashed across my mind.

These guys are all the same, I sighed lightly.

I wasn’t an offstage audience.

Chitose, you have been looking too much at Umi since yesterday.

Umi, you’ve been in maiden-in-love mode for too long.

Tōdō Mai, I’m going to crush you once and for all.

I stared at the scoreboard, then at my partner and the audience seat.

──A bright red fire was lit inside me.

I had my own style. I didn’t do that straightforward and passionate kind of thing.

However, don’t forget that there was a girl who was fighting too.

Otherwise, I’ll eat you all up to the bone.

***Part 2***

In the end, the victory that was within our grasp slipped through our fingers.

Oh well, at least we could see the future of the team. We lost the battle but won the war, I suppose.

After cheering with everyone else for a while, Umi came over to me in high spirits.

“It’s not quite strong enough for a starting point.” She raised her palm. “Let’s just say our game is on, shall we?”

I slapped her palm with my hand.

“How dare you say that after a false start?”

Even though you invited Chitose to go home with you.

Seeing her giggle made me groan helplessly in my heart.

Regardless of clubs or basketball matters, I gave a lot of help to a very difficult opponent even after the case with Nishino-senpai.

Ah, I really didn’t learn my lesson, did I?

Having said that, Umi’s performance at the end of the game was indeed dazzling.

──As expected, there was only one sun that I admired.

Your strength was not your outstanding athleticism or speed, but the fiery passion that lightened up everyone’s heart.

I don’t want to lose, I thought.

Even if you were the one who taught me the beauty of hard work.

Even if you were the one who saved the boy who helped me.

No, that’s exactly why…

Like an athlete, I would win by playing fair and square.

So, I smiled proudly. “Let’s play fair, I already kissed Chitose.”

All right, bring it on.
